The Data Promise
A community map only works if the people building it trust what happens to what they build. So here is what ZoRove commits to, in plain terms, with a date on it — so you can hold us to it.
1. What you contribute stays free to browse
Every place a Rover adds to the public map can be read by everyone. Browsing community places is not a Pro feature, it never has been, and it will not become one. You don't even need an account to look around.
2. We won't paywall what you have already given
ZoRove's pricing will change over the years — that is what happens to software that stays alive. When it does, it changes for features we build. It does not change access to contributions the community already made.
Put bluntly: nothing you have already shared will be moved behind a paywall later. If we need to charge for something new, we will charge for something new.
3. You can take your data with you
- Tracks and places export as GPX, which opens in Gaia, Garmin, OsmAnd, or anything else that reads a standard file. No lock-in, no proprietary format — and export is free for everyone, subscription or not. Charging people to leave with their own data is not something we will do.
- Deleting your account really deletes it — places, photos, tracks, garage records, notes, all of it. Not deactivated, not hidden. You can do it from your account page, or from a public page without installing anything.
4. Public data stays public
Campgrounds, land boundaries, wilderness areas, fire perimeters and forest roads come from government sources — the agencies your taxes already paid for. We list every one of them, with a link to the original, on our data sources page.
That data is public and we treat it that way. It is free in ZoRove and it stays free. ZoRove is an independent app and is not affiliated with any government agency.
5. What Pro actually pays for
Being straight about this matters more than sounding generous. ZoRove costs real money to run: map hosting, servers, storage, and the terrain and satellite data behind the offline packs.
Pro is $4 a month, or $38 a year. What it buys is capability — not the community's contributions.
Free, always
Offline state maps, community places, fire and wilderness overlays, navigate-to-a-pin, one vehicle in the Garage, and GPX import and export. No account needed to explore.
What Pro adds
Unlimited private places and photo uploads, GPS track recording, weather and compass, cell coverage, advanced filters, public-land and MVUM overlays, hunting units, and unlimited Garage vehicles with service history.
6. What we do not do
- No advertising, and no advertising trackers.
- No third-party analytics. We do not run Google Analytics or any equivalent.
- We do not sell or rent your data — not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
- We do not publish your private places. Private means private; you choose what goes on the public map.
7. If ZoRove ever winds down
Small projects sometimes end, and pretending otherwise would be the kind of promise that is not worth making. So here is one we can keep: if that day comes, we will say so publicly, give notice before anything is switched off, and keep export working right up to the end. Nobody will wake up to a dead app and no way to retrieve what they put into it.
Holding us to it
